Wednesday 1, January 2020

1 Chronicles 12:32: And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

Proverbs 19:8: To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper

The Bible records aptly that my people perish for lack of knowledge, knowledge when applied is wisdom, it is a primary thing and also profitable to direct.

To understand the signs, signals and prompting of ones environment within the context of time, season and periods is to have divine insights, revealed to one in the spiritual realm. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” – James 1:5.

God requires men to look up to him for insight, he says ask and it will be given, seek, you will find and knock it shall be opened unto you. Matthew 7:7.

Remember the story of the wisest king ever, God gave him an opportunity to ask for anything in his dreams, what did as for? WISDOM. 1 kings 3:1-28.

Our Bible text for this study reveals that the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, knew ahead what Israel ought to do. 1 Chronicles 12:32.

Every time, season and period has it’s accompanying situations, challenges as well as obvious problems, those who embrace it headlong with deep understanding and desernment in the spirit  become outstanding, successful and highly sought after. They provide the needed leadership, direction and useful insight within a seemingly hopeless situation.

Those who were vigilant enough to understand the signs of the times in our clime Nigeria, during the first and second economic downturns became the celebrated people of substance of our times, individuals such as Archbishop Benson Idahosa and Pa. Akindayomi of blessed memory, Pastor E.A Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Rev. Chris Oyakhilome, MKO Abiola, Okoya Thomas, Aluko Dangote, Femi Otedola amongst others simply knew what was needed at a point in  time and leveraged on it. Rather than see the problems as obstacles, they accepted them as stepping stones to greater heights. Proverbs 24:10, If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

To understand the signs of times is to know the mind of God for your environment at a given time. Knowing the mind of God gives spiritual advantage which puts you ahead of your contemporaries in the days of adversity, it positions you as the solution and change agents for you world at a given time and season.

Vivid examples of characters that understood the signs of their times in the Bible include, Joseph, Daniel, Ruth, Esther, John the Baptist and of course the children of Issachar amongst others. Proverbs 3:4-6, So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

To understand the signs of times, you must be in sink with God’s scheme and schedule for the world, this is only possible when you spend time in the place of prayer, meditation and communion with God, he will give insights and world changing information to those who are available to his prompting and leading.

“How many people, in so many of the existential peripheries of our time, are tired and exhausted, and await the Church? They await us! How can we reach them? … It is not the task of the Pope to offer a detailed and complete analysis of contemporary reality, but to invite all the Church to grasp the signs of the times that the Lord continually offers us. … These signs … must be reread in the light of the Gospel; this is the moment of growth of God’s Kingdom”- Pope Francis.

receive grace now in Jesus name to understand the signs of the times.
